The GP who helped football fans caught up in the Hillsborough disaster reflects on the past 27 years

Glyn Phillips was a spectator with his brother and two friends at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield on 15 April 1989, when overcrowding on the terraces led to a crush among the Liverpool fans. Ninety six people died and hundreds were injured. Phillips performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a man he found in an unresponsive state.

On 26 April this year an inquiry found that the Liverpool fans were unlawfully killed and that police and emergency services were negligent.
