Diluted apple juice may be an appropriate alternative to electrolyte maintenance fluids in children with mild gastroenteritis who have minimal dehydration, a study published in JAMA has found.1
Electrolyte maintenance solution is recommended for treating and preventing dehydration, but the evidence in minimally dehydrated children is unproved. It is also relatively expensive, and children may not like the taste.
