Doctor can take GMC to tribunal
Ewa Michalak, a doctor who won nearly £4.5m (€5.7m; $6.5m) compensation from an NHS trust for unfair dismissal, discrimination, and victimisation in 2011 got the go ahead to take the General Medical Council (GMC) to an employment tribunal for the way it dealt with the trust’s complaints against her. The Court of Appeal’s ruling paves the way for other doctors to take similar action against the GMC, said Michalak’s solicitor, Kate Williams (see full BMJ story at doi:10.1136/bmj.i2138).
BMA will hold urgent meeting
The BMA planned an urgent meeting of UK doctors to discuss the current funding and workforce crisis across the health service, falling morale among doctors, and potential solutions to help protect the future of patient care. The meeting, to be held on 3 May in London, will feature Jane Dacre, president of the Royal College of Physicians, who will talk about morale and workload.
