Re: Assam: India’s state with the highest maternal mortality

After going through the whole narrative of the article entitled "Assam: India’s state with the highest maternal mortality" by Sophie Cousins, we have certain remarks. The Maternal Mortality is not only highest, it is almost double the national average which means something is seriously amiss. It is not only a health problem and a fault in the health care system, but there appears to be a Tea Gardens Mafia of the garden owners. The workers appear to be bonded labourers and mutely accept their present condition and the vicious circle of poverty, illiteracy and ill-health and development. The bone of contention lies in the economical social and political structure of Tea-Gardens. We thank The BMJ and Sophie Cousins for uncovering the reality of Assam tea Gardens. Hope Government and non-governmental organization do something rational and concrete about this.
