BMA defends decision to end GPs’ responsibility for care home residents

The BMA has denied looking to offload GPs’ responsibility for care home residents after a conference vote to seek separate contractual arrangements covering services for this group of patients.
Chaand Nagpaul, who chairs the BMA’s General Practitioners Committee, said that the decision by the conference of local medical committees, the bodies that represent GPs, showed that GPs were “overstretched” and that the current contract was resulting in a “piecemeal service.”
