- Alasdair Mackie; Niall Mackie.
Helen Jean Gardner Mackie (née Ramsay) gained a place at medical school at the age of 16. She trained in anaesthetics but transferred to public health while her children were growing up. After her husband, a consultant radiologist, died in 1968 she returned to anaesthetics before switching to geriatric medicine. She was based in North Ayrshire for the final years of her career. In retirement she enjoyed travelling and her garden, but, above all, vintage car rallies, with the Enniskillen run an annual highlight. She leaves two sons.
