Partial breast radiotherapy is as effective as standard whole breast radiotherapy, study finds

Radiotherapy focused around only the part of the breast that had contained the tumour is as effective as the standard treatment of whole breast radiotherapy, shows research presented at the European Breast Cancer Conference in Amsterdam this week.1 The researchers hope that the results will contribute to changes in clinical practice worldwide.

The IMPORT LOW trial, funded by Cancer Research UK, included 2018 women with a median age of 63 who were recruited from 30 radiotherapy centres in the United Kingdom. …
