BMA calls for chief inspector of general practice to resign

Doctors’ leaders have called for Steve Field, chief inspector of general practice at the regulator for England the Care Quality Commission, to resign, after he made “unjustified” comments that have “undermined” the profession.

The BMA’s General Practitioners Committee passed a motion on 17 December saying that it had no confidence in Field and calling for his immediate resignation.

The Royal College of General Practitioners also took the unusual step of openly critcising a high profile medical figure in the NHS to say that the GP profession had lost confidence in Field after “baffling, unfounded, and scaremongering” comments he made about GPs.
