John Gavin Craig graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 1970 and spent the next three years working there in hospital medicine, when the Troubles were at their height. He returned to his home county of Yorkshire and worked as a hospital registrar in Leeds, where his gained his membership of the Royal College of Physicians.
