Study shows higher risk from hip fracture surgery than hip replacement even after adjustment for age

Patients who undergo surgery for a hip fracture have a higher risk of mortality and of developing major complications than do patients who undergo an elective total hip replacement, even after adjustment for the fact that hip fracture patients are usually older and have more comorbidities, a large cohort study has found.1
