Cardiothoracic surgeon is dismissed from Cardiff hospital for gross misconduct

A consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff has been dismissed without notice for gross misconduct after a formal investigation and hearing into allegations of bullying hospital staff.

Peter O’Keefe, 50, had been suspended from his job since April 2012 on a full salary of £120 000 (€164 000; $185 000), while locums were employed by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to do his work.
