US melanoma prevalence has doubled over past 30 years

The prevalence of melanoma in the United States has doubled over the three decades from 1982 to 2011, from 11.2 per 100 000 population to 22.7 per 100 000, says a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Without effective prevention efforts in the community this rate will continue to rise, the CDC has warned.1
