After further training in children’s health, Helen S Kennedy took up a GP partnership at 1264 Dumbarton Road, Partick, Glasgow, where she worked until she retired in 1996. She became senior partner in 1985. She was a trainer in general practice for many years and had interests in thyroid disease, psychosexual medicine, and genitourinary medicine. She achieved a bachelor of arts degree with the Open University in 1985.

However, she always felt her best years were spent in Kenya in the early 1960s. She worked as a GP at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi and was also a doctor with the east African flying doctor service, then involved in mass immunisation campaigns with the nomadic tribes.

In her later years she developed dementia, but she always maintained good spirits and passed peacefully.

Helen was predeceased in 1998 by her husband, Stewart, a pathologist. She leaves three children and four grandchildren.
