College issues guidance to identify substance misuse among older people

The Royal College of Psychiatrists is urging GPs to incorporate screening for alcohol and substance misuse into general health assessments of people aged over 60. The college has published a new guideline that aims to reduce the threat of alcohol related brain damage to older people and the high rate of suicide in this age group.1
