Reasons for longer hospital waiting times need to be understood, says Nuffield Trust

NHS hospitals will continue to struggle to meet waiting time targets in the future because of systemic problems in the health service, a new analysis from the Nuffield Trust claims.1
The healthcare think tank said that, although previous dips in national performance against targets had been attributed to failings at a handful of low performing hospital trusts, some measures had deteriorated markedly at hospitals over the past year, across the performance spectrum. The trust warned of “no quick fixes” to reverse the trend and said that the NHS should be prepared for further breaches.
