Dear Sirs
I have with great interest read your paper. I see a lot of patients with reflux disease treated with proton pump inhitors (PPI ). Many of them still have symptoms despit treatment especially in the nighttime. They tell me that they then often take a glass of milk to cure symptoms. Actually about 7 % of scandinavians take daily PPI for reflux disease.
It is known that PPI decrease calcium uptake and thereby give a higher risk of hip fractures. Some papers have also shown that patients with reflux disease and hiatal hernias may have a higher mortality rate.
How have you secured that this could not be an important factor in your unexpected conclusion.?
