Leela Menon was born in Queensbury, Bradford, in 1923 but soon after moved to Edmonton, London, where her father bought a practice in Church Street where Keats had been apprenticed. She went on the North London Collegiate school, when war broke out in 1939. At the time she was staying with family friends in Rhoose, Wales, so she stayed for a year and went to school in Barry.
