Re: Adverse effects of statins

Independent of the proper percentage referred to, we agree with F. Godlee's article because one of us said in 1991 that statins are dangerous if administered in hyperdislipidemics affected by unrecognized Co Q10 Deficiency Syndrome (1,2). Ten years later, the mass-media all over the world announced rhabdomyolysis and death caused by cerivastatin if prescribed in association with other anticholesterolemic drugs (fibrates). Unfortunately, the above-referred data of the research of one of us have been unfortunately over-looked.

As a matter of fact, in the above-mentioned article it is described, for the first time, the method to bedside recognize “clinically”, by means of a new, original physical semeiotics, the Quantum Biophysical Semeiotics, Co Q10 Deficiency syndrome, even initial and asymptomatic.

Co Q10 is an essential coenzyme, scavenger of free radicals, and unavoidable in reaching the normal free energy level in every cell of the body, necessary for the life of all biological systems, including heart and skeletal muscle. Finally, statins have to be administered exclusively to patients affected by CAD and CVD with an Inherited Real Risk (3,4).
