US internists call for public health approach to gun violence in US

In a new position paper the American College of Physicians has called for a public health approach to the problem of gun violence in the United States and urges health professionals to become actively involved in efforts to reduce gun related injuries and deaths.1

In the paper, published online 10 April, the college said, “The medical profession has a special responsibility to speak out on prevention of firearm-related injuries and deaths, just as physicians have spoken out on other public health issues.”
