Journals are not biased towards positive trial results, conference hears

Journals are just as likely to publish trials with negative results as those with positive findings, concludes research presented this week at the International Congress on Peer Review and Biomedical Publication in Chicago.
Bias towards publication of positive results, particularly in industry sponsored trials, has been well described in the medical literature. It has not been clear, however, whether this occurs because authors and sponsors fail to submit negative studies or because of lack of interest among editors.
