Obesity rates dip slightly among some poor children in the US

After rising steadily for decades, obesity rates among poor preschool children in the United States have dipped or held steady in 19 states and territories, says a report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Health officials hailed the findings as a sign that the US may finally be making some progress in its battle against childhood obesity. Tom Frieden, the CDC’s director, said, “Although obesity remains epidemic, the tide has begun to turn for some kids in some states.”
