Mortality rates after emergency surgery vary widely between hospitals, study shows

There is a wide variation in patient death rates after emergency general surgery in England, with mortality in the worst performing hospital trust twice that of the best performer, research has found.1
Survival rates were higher in hospitals with better resources such as more critical care beds and greater usage of computed tomography scanning.
