Overlapping meta-analyses on the same topic: survey of published studies

Re: Overlapping meta-analyses on the same topic: survey of published studies

Sir,
We agree with Professor Mühlhauser and colleagues' observations regarding the strategies to prevent the possible duplication of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. No doubt, an advantage of this duplication, as has been proposed, is a second-check for the completeness of the meta-analysis. However, we are of strong view of making it mandatory to register the proposed meta-analysis and systematic reviews before actively undertaking such 'herculean' academic feats. This can help save duplication of such research and allow for better use of the resources for advancement in patient-care.
