New somatic symptom disorder in DSM-5
A step in the wrong direction

As a physician who trained in both psychiatry and pain management and chaired the DSM-IV ((Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition) and DSM-IV-TR (text revision) committees on pain disorder, I am worried about subsuming these diagnoses under the new somatic symptom disorder diagnosis in DSM-5.1
