Retirement: the four year itch

Retirement is one of those sensitive topics, like politics and religion, to be avoided when talking to doctors who are still working. It risks provoking a diatribe on the new NHS pension arrangements, their children’s university tuition fees, and, for comparison, bankers’ bonuses. We of the boomer generation have learnt to keep our mouths shut and our heads down.
