New CQC chairman plans changes to sharpen the regulator’s performance

The man set to chair the main watchdog for NHS organisations in England has promised to sharpen its performance and ensure no more scandals such as those at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust or the Winterbourne View care home.1 2

David Prior, who has been named as the government’s preferred candidate for the post of chairman of the Care Quality Commission, appeared before the parliamentary health select committee as part of a pre-appointment hearing on 5 December.
