Bahraini authorities jail 23 medical staff for three months for role in protests

A court in Bahrain has sentenced 23 medical professionals to three months in jail or a fine of 200 dinars (£330; €410; $530) for taking part in protests against the authorities last year.

The defendants, 11 doctors, several nurses, and other medical professionals, “committed crimes and violations, breaching the law and the [medical] norms,” said the prosecutor Abdulrahman al-Sayyed, according to the state news service BNA. They have been charged with “taking part in unauthorised demonstrations.”
