I am a midwife, a health psychologist, and a smoker. In December 2011, I decided that I wanted to quit, and asked my general practitioner for a varenicline prescription. I was told that the practice “do not deal with that,” and a referral to the local health trainers was made to assess my needs. I was told to call if no contact was made by the end of January.
