Breast surgeons are referred to GMC for refusing to take part in a review of their unit

Two breast surgeons at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust have been referred to the UK General Medical Council after refusing to cooperate in a review of the breast cancer unit by the Royal College of Surgeons.

The college was asked by healthcare commissioners to look at breast cancer surgery at the trust after a peer review by the Greater Midlands Cancer Research Network described the multidisciplinary team as “deeply dysfunctional” and raised concerns about the safety of patients.1
