After initial posts at the London, Bath, and Poplar hospitals, Francis William Stanley Webb (“Bill”) succeeded in the MRCP in 1966. I was told by Clifford Wilson, professor of medicine at the London Hospital at the time, that Bill had achieved the highest marks in that examination. He trained in rheumatology at the Royal Postgraduate Hospital, Hammersmith and became senior registrar at the London Hospital. His rotation was to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. …
