Joseph Bartholomew Deasy (“Joe”) was born in Cork City, spent his early life in Cork, and moved to the Dublin area in the early 1930s. He studied medicine at University College, Dublin, and on qualifying he moved to Northumberland to take up the post of resident medical officer at Hexham Emergency Hospital.
