We described the role of Internal Medicine in Spain as a pillar of hospital care for medical patients.
Internal Medicine have been incorporated, last years, a variety of type of care to solve organizational problems in hospitals that reflect the capacity for innovation and flexibility of this speciality. More modern terms for hospital generalists, like acute care medicine and hospitalist, are different though the substance of these specialities are the same than Internal Medicine.
