Lack of hospital diabetes teams

Contrary to the recent news story,1 NHS hospitals do have specialist diabetes teams, comprising consultants, specialty registrars, and nurse specialists. However, inpatient diabetes typically represents only a small part of their overall workload.
NHS trusts tend to use specialty registrars in diabetes and endocrinology on acute medicine rotas, disproportionately compared with peers in other medical specialties. Moreover, time available …
