Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response is first posted online. I'm sorry but this study's title is very misleading, almost as much as the news headlines which have jumped on it!!
Can someone please re-do this study and actually involve people doing exercise instead of talking to them about it!
This study doesn't prove or disprove anything and in terms of actually producing something scientific it falls wide of the mark. I also like the fact it states 361 participants, but when you read the detail this isn't the case all the way through the study - only at the start, i.e recruited people.
I suggest that a study next time involve exercise which looks at the following aspects at the very least:
* Frequency of Exercise
* Level of intensity
* Type of Exercise
This would also have to include or take into account other factors such as alcohol, smoking and diet - which would/could possibly be effected by the introduction of regular exercise, this in turn of course effects mood as well.
