Bowel cancers are diagnosed late: Almost 10% of bowel cancer patients in England die within a month of being diagnosed, show data from between 2006 and 2008 analysed by the National Cancer Intelligence Network (http://ncin.org.uk/). More than half (56%) of those who died were over 80 years old and 60% were diagnosed following an emergency admission to hospital.
