Women at risk of HIV can continue to use hormonal contraception but with condoms

Women at high risk of acquiring HIV can continue to use injectable hormonal contraceptives, despite research indicating that their use increases women’s susceptibility to infection with HIV, concludes a World Health Organization review of evidence.

The review determined that overall the evidence that the risk of transmission of HIV to women was raised by the use of hormonal contraceptives was inconclusive and that women at high risk of HIV could continue to use injectable hormonal contraceptives but along with condoms.
