The Royal College of Physicians has announced two new membership categories for medical students and foundation doctors. The aims are to provide tools and guidance for young doctors as they progress from the university environment to hospital wards and to nurture the next generation of medical leaders.

“At a time of huge reform and change within the NHS, it is even more important to give a voice to younger doctors, as they will inherit the medical profession we are helping to shape,” said Richard Thompson, president of the college.

Medical student and foundation doctor members will have access to free web streamed teach-ins and lectures; resources such as the college’s library; careers information; and medical practice guides and online forums. Medical elective funding opportunities will be available to medical students.

Membership is £1 a month for medical students and £4 a month for foundation doctors.
