Governments, employers, and labour unions are backing the International Labour Organization (ILO) to develop a basic social protection guarantee that would provide essential healthcare and income for the world’s most vulnerable people.
Michael Cichon, director of social security at the ILO, said one billion people receive no help or support if they are sick, fall into poverty, or are unemployed. A further five billion people have inadequate social security coverage.
