The cause of the outbreak of severe bloody diarrhoea and potentially lethal kidney failure from infection with enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) in Germany has still not been identified, but is no longer thought to be caused by Spanish cucumbers, as originally announced by the German authorities.
