GAVI funding helps fight against meningitis A in Africa: The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI Alliance) has committed $100m (£61m; €70m) to help tackle meningitis A in Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria through use of the new single dose vaccine MenAfriVac, which protects against group A meningococcal meningitis, responsible for over 85% of observed meningococcal meningitis in Africa. The alliance has already committed $29.5m to introduce the vaccine in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger and $55.2m for a vaccine stockpile.
