Some PCTs recommend GPs limit prescriptions to 28 days

Several primary care trusts are recommending that GPs limit all prescriptions to only 28 days worth of drugs in an attempt to reduce waste and save money, it has been claimed.
The Patients Association charity has received growing numbers of calls in the past month from members of the public saying their GP had been advised by primary care trusts to reduce the number of drugs they can prescribe to a maximum of 28 days per prescription.
In response to the development, the BMA has advised GPs to make their own decisions about prescriptions and consider primary care trust advice as “encouragement” only.
