NHS launches legal action against makers of Gaviscon

The NHS in England has launched a High Court action against Reckitt Benckiser, maker of the heartburn remedy Gaviscon.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley has been joined in the civil claim by all 10 strategic health authorities and 144 primary care trusts in England.
The action was issued on 15 February in the High Court’s chancery division in London but neither the company nor the Department of Health would confirm that it concerns Gaviscon. A spokeswoman for the department said: “It’s ongoing court proceedings so we can’t comment.”
