Improving doctors’ understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities will take priority in the General Medical Council’s new three year plan to improve care.
A 12 page consultation document on the GMC’s equality scheme for 2011-14 states that its intention is to “develop materials to raise doctors’ awareness of the needs and experiences of patients with learning disabilities.”
