Ireland is to review accuracy of its miscarriage diagnoses to avoid damaging interventions

Cases of misdiagnosed miscarriage that occurred over the past five years in Ireland are to be reviewed to see how many of the women who had wrongly been told that they had miscarried were then advised to have drug or surgical treatment, thus ending a viable pregnancy.

Dozens of women across the country contacted telephone helplines set up by the Health Service Executive after Melissa Redmond, from Dublin, revealed that were it not for her insisting on a second ultrasound scan her 3 month old son would not be alive today.
