Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed. Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles. The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being wilfully misrepresented as published articles.
Dave was a great colleague. I remember well our happy but busy days as paediatric SHOs in Liverpool. He had a tremendous sense of humour and always kept a smile on our faces even when times were busy and stressful. He was a very popular doctor among colleagues and patients alike and will be remembered for a long time. Very sad to hear of his death,
Dave was a classmate at MGS and although I last saw him in 1982, I
still remember him with great affection. Although we deal with bad news as
part of our daily work, it never prepares us for personal loss. Perhaps
its the school connection when we were young, idealistic and thought we
would live forever. Its indicative of Dave's character and personality
that his memory remains vividly imprinted upon me. His ability to combine
humour and cheekiness but still maintain concentration and a fervent
desire to learn and enquire were amongst his admirable qualities. Its with
great regret I read today of his sad and premature demise.
