Risk of psychiatric side effects with varenicline

Gunnell and colleagues report “no clear evidence” that varenicline, a drug to aid smoking cessation, is associated with suicidal behaviours.1 This finding is directly contradicted by a strong signal seen in the most recent data from the UK’s yellow card system (table⇓).2
