Violations in eastern Congo may amount to war crimes: Two reports by UN peacekeepers and human rights experts have said that a series of gross violations, including arbitrary executions and sexual violence, carried out in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo by government forces and the militia group known as CNDP could amount to war crimes or crimes against humanity. The Goma general hospital alone treated 17 cases of rape attributed to men in uniform.
