Health aid is not distributed according to need, WHO says

    A new report from the World Health Organization points to big differences in the amount of healthcare aid provided to different countries that are not related to levels of need.

    The report says that major imbalances in the allocation of health aid run counter to internationally recognised principles of effective aid (Bulletin of the World Health Organization doi:10.2471/BLT.08.058677).

    “There are some marked imbalances in the allocation of health aid . . . Countries with comparable levels of poverty and health-related needs receive remarkably different levels of aid,” warn the report’s authors. …
