Patrick Ramage was born on the 13 July 1935. His father was an engineer for the British Army, and Patrick spent most of his early childhood with his five brothers and sisters in India. Because of political problems related to the partition of India, Patrick’s family moved to Leeds in England when he was a teenager.
After leaving school, Patrick initially studied chemistry but soon switched to medicine. He trained at Charing Cross Medical School in London, qualifying in 1962.
