Expert group calls for more funding to tackle malaria

European Union donors need to increase their funding to antimalaria programmes fourfold if the ultimate target of defeating the disease is to be achieved, says a study from the European Alliance Against Malaria.
Since 2004, global funding for malaria control has increased considerably and by 2007, the most recent year for which complete data are available, had reached $1.5bn (£920m; €1.1bn).
